The World of Birds - Phil Hardy

Phil's interest in birds was actually begun by his paternal grandfather who taught him most of the common backyard birds as a youth.

After moving to Americus in 1986, Phil developed a deeper interest in birds which turned into a hobby and eventually a passion. After moving into the Lake Jennifer area of Americus he built his own bird feeders and nest boxes. He began to keep notes on birds and their behavior. With the development of digital cameras, Phil began his bird photography hobby and photographs many species in his own backyard. He has combined his desire to see new and interesting birds with his love of travel. Phil has visited eight foreign countries and multiple places in the US to see and photograph birds.

Phil serves on the Executive Committee of the Georgia Ornithological Society as Historian. He has helped many young Boy Scouts with the Bird Study merit badge. He writes a monthly column for The Americus Times Recorder newspaper and has been published in Bird Watching Magazine. His photography skills won best in show at the St. Augustine Alligator Farm annual photo contest.
