Phil's interest in birds was actually
begun by his paternal grandfather who taught him most of the
common backyard birds as a youth.
After moving to Americus in 1986, Phil
developed a deeper interest
in birds which turned into a hobby and eventually a passion.
After moving into the Lake Jennifer area of Americus he built
his own bird feeders and nest boxes. He began to keep notes on
birds and their behavior. With the development of digital
cameras, Phil began his bird photography hobby and photographs
many species in his own backyard. He has combined his desire to
see new and interesting birds with his love of travel. Phil has
visited eight foreign countries and multiple places in the US to
see and photograph birds.
Phil serves on the Executive Committee of
the Georgia Ornithological Society as Historian. He has helped
many young Boy Scouts with the Bird Study merit badge. He writes
a monthly column for
